Apples to Apples

Tonight I took the boys to my parent's house for dinner. My sister Lauren & her husband Brent were in town too. After a delicious Cordon Bleu dinner, we started playing games.

I don't know if you have ever played Apples to Apples, but the game is pretty funny. It is also good at teaching children nouns and adjectives. Anyhow, what happens is one person draws an adjective card (green apple) and puts it in the middle of the table. Then, each player lays down a noun (red apple) that they feel is described by the green apple. Then the person who drew the adjective card judges the red apples and picks the one that is best described by the green apple.

Anyhow, the game gets pretty silly. The game is listed for people ages 12 and up, but we let the boys play because their perspective on things can be entertaining. Lex was played one particularly funny hand. The adjective was "Delightful". So, everyone was supposed to play a card that was "delightful". I can't even remember the other answers right now, but I think they were like "Prince Charming", "Professional Wrestlers", and "Red Raspberries". Lex laid down the card, "HMOs". At first I thought he was being sarcastic...what is "delightful" about an HMO?

Then as the judge was reviewing the card, Lex starts grinning (remember he is only 7). He says that he should win and when we ask him why.... He says it is because "HOMO"s are very delightful. Ha Ha. Grandma Cindy, Lauren, & Alyson were all in tears!

Yes, honey! Homos are very delightful. I'll make sure to let your "uncles" know that you said so. (The guys at work are going to get a kick outta this story tomorrow.)
